Handmade Valentine's Day Card Inspiration

by Paper House

Hi there! I am very excited to share my very first blog here, as a part of the CT for Paper House Productions.

A little bit about me. My name is Kinjal and I am originally from India, settled in Houston, Texas (for the time being). My husband’s job got us here, and moving around every few years is how we function.

I was always inclined towards creating and making, but card making was my true calling! I am self-taught, and I love exploring this style of crafting in new ways.

Today I will be sharing two Valentine inspired cards that make use of several papers from the ColorWays scrapbook paper collection.

Valentines Day Card #1:

This card was a lot of fun to make. I used the ColorWays heart cardstock of all the colors to make this multicolored heart.

Step 1: Making the Heart

I used a heart die to cut six hearts from six different colors in the Paper House Productions ColorWays double-sided scrapbook paper collection. Then I used a paper trimmer to divide each heart into six segments. I took a segment from each heart to create one multi-colored heart.

Step 2: Creating the Card Front

I chose a solid red background from the ColorWays collection as my base. Using a leaf die (Pinkfresh Studio), I cut coordinating leaves from the same doubled-sided cardstock that I used for my hearts. I then arranged the leaves against the red base from the ColorWays collection and set my multi-color heart on top of the leaves.

For the sentiment, I adhered the “I’ll hold your hands” sticker from the Baby It’s Cold Outside Puffy Stickers to the middle of the heart. Last, but not least, I finished it off by adding white liquid pearl dots.

This is a perfect card for Valentine’s Day or an anniversary. The colors compliment each other and make a wonderful card to give to someone you love!

Valentines Day Card 2:

This card is for those celebrating Valentine's Day and want a masculine/general card. This black layout enhances the little pop of color and the gold splatters give it an elegant look.

Step 1: Creating the Card Base

I cut down this black ColorWays paper slightly smaller than an A2 size, and splattered some gold paint with a fan brush.

Step 2: Creating Layers for the Card

I adhered this colorful rice paper sticker from Summer Fun Rice Paper Borders, a white thread, and a black strip of paper.  I also cut a circle from a coordinating piece of the black and grey ColorWays paper using a circle die. (This rice paper border is retired, but you can easily substitute Kawaii Not Rice Paper Borders or washi tape.)

Then I cut some leaves from the black ColorWays cardstock using the same leaf die I used for Valentine #1.

Step 3: Putting the Card Together

I adhered the leaves and the circle to the card base with glue over top of the border. To make the "love you" sentiment, I stamped the word "love" and found a die cut "you" in my box of scraps. (Do you love scraps as much as I do?!) I then put a small epoxy heart sticker from Live Bold Epoxy Stickers. (The Live Bold sticker set is also retired, but the Free Spirit Epoxy Stickers are very similar.)

I finished the look off by adding some liquid pearl dots.

I love how it turned out!
